Friday Prayer (Jumah)

The Jumah prayer is the Friday congregational prayer that replaces Dhuhr for adult Muslim men. It is one of the most important weekly obligations in Islam.

Niyyah (Intention)

Neveytu en u salliye lillahi teala salattel-cumuati (iktedeytü bil-imam) edaen, Allahu ekber.

Prayer Structure

The complete Jumah prayer consists of 5 parts: 1. 4 rak'ahs Sunnah (before the Khutbah) 2. Khutbah (sermon) — listen in silence while the imam speaks 3. 2 rak'ahs Fard (the Jumah prayer itself) 4. 4 rak'ahs Sunnah (after Jumah) 5. 2 rak'ahs Sunnah (after that)

The Khutbah (sermon) is an obligatory part of Jumah. Talking or praying sunnah during the Khutbah is not permitted — listen attentively in silence.

Surah Al-Kahf

سُورَةُ الْكَهْف۞

It is Sunnah to recite Surah Al-Kahf (Surah 18) on Friday. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever reads Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine for him between the two Fridays."

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

Increase sending salawat (prayers of blessing) on the Prophet ﷺ on Fridays — it is one of the most virtuous deeds of this blessed day.

Note: (اِقْتَدَيْتُ بِالإِمَامِ) is used only for the fard prayer when praying in congregation (with an imam).
